Creator Rights, DMCA & EU DSA Notice-and-Action · v2026-10-15

Copyright & DMCA Policy

Effective Date: October 15, 2026 · 17 U.S.C. § 512 & EU Regulation 2022/2065 (DSA)

Uncompromising Respect for Artists’ Rights

ShutterQuest is a community of working and aspiring photographers. We enforce a strict zero-tolerance policy against plagiarism, unauthorized image uploads, and copyright infringement. Photographers retain 100% copyright over their original submissions.

1. Master Study Reference Works & Attribution

Educational briefs in The Master Class stream reference historical techniques (such as the Zone System, chiaroscuro, or slow-shutter panning). Where archival works reside in the verified public domain (such as Ansel Adams’ 1941–1942 works for the U.S. Department of the Interior held in the U.S. National Archives), they are cited with archival provenance. Where contemporary reference photographs are used to illustrate an optical technique, they are licensed under the Unsplash License or direct photographer agreement and explicitly labeled as Contemporary Reference Studies with full photographer credit.

2. Filing a Copyright / DMCA / EU DSA Takedown Notice

If you believe your copyrighted work has been uploaded to ShutterQuest without authorization, please send a written takedown notice to our Designated Copyright Agent containing:

  1. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed (or a link to an authorized original portfolio/publication).
  2. Identification of the allegedly infringing material on ShutterQuest (including the URL or submission ID).
  3. Your full legal name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  4. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  5. A statement made under penalty of perjury that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner’s behalf.
  6. Your physical or electronic signature.

3. Counter-Notice & Repeat Infringer Policy

Upon receipt of a valid takedown notice, ShutterQuest expeditiously removes or disables access to the reported work and notifies the uploading member. If you believe your submission was removed by mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notice containing your original raw file (.CR3, .NEF, .ARW, .DNG, or negative scan provenance) and a statement consenting to jurisdiction. Accounts with two (2) verified copyright strikes are permanently terminated and stripped of all sq standing.
